PlayUAVOSD has trouble syncing to NTSC from Runcam

Output seems stable when there is no video source, but when connected to the camera it has both vsync and hsync trouble. The problem seems to get a little better after it warms up, but it is still occasionally too unstable to fly.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

BTW - The camera is a Runcam NTSC FPV cam, not the HD recording flavor.

I tested the system without the OSD present and the image is perfect.

Now that I'm in my shop and have the camera box handy I can state that it is a RunCam Swift FPV camera. The video TX is an ImmersionRC 600mW.

Are you sure the osd is set to ntsc?
Also, is your shop very bright? It might be an issue with too high levels too.
If you put the lens cap on, does the issue persist?

gnrc,

Thanks for the reply, and suggestions.

Yes, I have verified that NTSC mode is selected. I also tried PAL, just in case the camera is mislabeled. PAL mode performs a little worse.

The camera seems to have some sort of AGC going on for the luminence, so high light levels don't seem to cause high signal levels or saturation. I did notice that the symptom gets worse in low ambient light conditions. So, yes. With the lens cap on, the problem not only persists, it gets worse.

I also noticed that even when the OSD has a good lock, the vertical sync is a little early. The image is shifted South such that the GPS position is just below the visible frame. I know that I can adjust the offset, but I don't think that is the solution that I need.

Just a curiosity - Are there cameras that PlayUAVOSD is known to work well with?

Another curiosity - Do you know if some cameras have an inverted sync?

I mainly use pz0420 and hs1177 and had no issues, only use pal cameras though.
I do have a ntsc hs1177 at home but haven't tried it.
If I get around to it, I will give it a go.

Do you have any other ntsc cams on hand to try to switch out to see if the issue persists?

Thanks.

No other cams right now. I could order another. I'll see what I can come up with.

I just remembered that the RunCam camera has an OSD menu and some settings that I can play with. I've never tried, so I don't know what I have access to. I'll hook up the control cable tonight and see what kind of trouble I can get into.

Let us know what you figure out.
Maybe someone around you has another cam you can try?

I found and fiddled with a number of video settings on the RunCam camera, including brightness. I initially thought that reducing the brightness helped, but on a test flight this morning the sync issue was worse than ever.

I haven't done a detailed comparison of specs, but it looks like the RunCam Swift and Foxeer HS177 use the same Sony HAD imager.

I'll look into getting another camera.

Thanks again for the advice!

I received and installed a Foxeer HS1177 yesterday. Same problem.

At the same time, I received a minimOSD. I installed that and it works perfectly.

I think I'm going to stay with the minimOSD. It's kinda primitive, but after chasing OSD problems for months now, I just need something that works so I can move on.

PlayUAVOSD is a great idea and I hope development will continue. I just don't think that it's a good fit for me at this time.

I thank you sincerely for your time and advice.

All the best,

Chris
